Discrete 2024 in Ljubljana, Dec 2-6, 2024

Discrete fundamental symmetries meet at the crossroads of particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. The purpose of this biannual symposium is to review the latest developments in the field of discrete symmetries, to discuss the present status of the field and to explore future directions. Combinations of the discrete symmetries C, P, and T are probed in electroweak processes, Higgs physics, and low-energy precision experiments. New… Read More »Discrete 2024 in Ljubljana, Dec 2-6, 2024

Luka Šantelj and Gaetano de Marino, coordinators of physics working groups

While Luka Šantelj has been acting as one of the two coordinators of the Hadronic working group (together with Mirco Dorigo), the FAIME team has a second coordinator. Gaetano de Marino was appointed as the co-coordinator of the Electro-weak Penguin working group, a group that has recently finalized several high-profile analyses like  B -> K nu nu and B -> K* tau tau. Congratulations!

CherPET: Cherenkov light in medical imaging

The ERC funded Proof-of-Concept project CherPET, a spin-off of the FAIME project, took off end of 2023. Its aim is to make use of the development of detectors for particle physics to boost the performance of a medical imaging method. The paradigm shift in medicine from the treatment of acute or advanced disease to very early diagnosis and even prevention in cancer, as well as… Read More »CherPET: Cherenkov light in medical imaging

Congratulations to Anja Novosel for her winning poster

Anja’s poster won the competition at the Belle II Physics Week poster session, in a strong competition of many fantastic posters from not only Belle II early career physicists, but also from visiting theorists! At the Belle II Physics Week (Oct 30 – Nov 3) there were many spirited discussions on how to improve the measurements of the |Vcb| matrix element of the CKM matrix… Read More »Congratulations to Anja Novosel for her winning poster

Search for the Lepton Flavor Violating Decays

Fresh from the print, the “Search for the Lepton Flavor Violating Decays B+ → K+ τ l (l = e, μ) at Belle” has been published online at https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevLett.130.261802. An open-access version is available at https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.04128. In this study, led by Shun Watanuki and Gaetano de Marino, we searched for decays involving charged B and K mesons and two leptons of different flavors: a tau lepton… Read More »Search for the Lepton Flavor Violating Decays

Ljubljana Summer School on Particle Physics and Cosmology

At the Faculty for mathematics and physics, University of Ljubljana, we are co-organizing a summer school on theoretical aspects of calculations related to BSM searches at colliders (e.g. MC tools, analyses, machine learning techniques), flavour aspects of BSM and related phenomenological tools, as well as on astroparticle andcosmological imprints of BSM models. The level of lectures is intended mostly for PhD students in high-energy physics, as… Read More »Ljubljana Summer School on Particle Physics and Cosmology

International Workshop Portorož 2023

Together with our colleagues of the Theory department F1 at JSI, we have organized a very successful and well attended workshop Portorož 2023 http://hepworkshop.ijs.si/2023/. The workshop was sixth in a series ofbiannual events that started in 2011, and covered most relevant topics in particle physics phenomenology, from Higgs boson and electroweak physics, top quark physics, flavour phenomena and CP violation, neutrinophysics and dark matter, to… Read More »International Workshop Portorož 2023

International Masterclasses 2023

Outreach – International Masterclasses in particle physics 2023 during the 31st Days of Jožef Stefan https://dnevi.ijs.si/en. About 50 high school students engaged in the analysis of the real data collected at CERN and KEK laboratories by ATLAS and Belle II, and familiarized with tools for cancer treatment planning employing x-rays, protons, or carbon ions Particle Therapy. Organized in collaboration with IPPOG – International Particle Physics Outreach… Read More »International Masterclasses 2023
